Journeyman Continuing Education (CEU) Requirements
16 hours of continuing education are required for licensing renewals:
- 8 hours of Code Update
- 8 hours of any other NM Construction Industries Division approved course.
The deadline for license renewal is the last day of the license issue month, every three years. Don’t wait to the last minute to take and complete the required CEU courses!
SMART Local Union No. 49 JATC provides classes for current members offered at no cost.
Classes are held from 7:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M. at the JATC Training Center located at 2300 Buena Vista SE STE 135, Albuquerque, NM 87106.

CEU Class Registration
Please check above for class dates and enrollment deadlines. If a selected class is full or past the enrollment deadline you will be placed on a Waitlist for the next available date for that class.
Online Classes
If you need to take CEU classes immediately to renew your license, you can take online courses that have been approved by the New Mexico licensing board.
NOTE: These online classes are NOT free and are NOT provided by JATC. Prices vary (see site for current pricing) and currently run between $25 for a 2-hour course on HVAC replacements, to $110 for a full 16-hour New Mexico Mechanical Journeyman CEU course package.
Courses are completed online at your own pace. Once you finish your online course you will receive an official Certificate of Completion for your records, and your hours will be reported to the state within 5 business days.
